Before You Modify
Resolve the awkward questions while the parts are still in the catalogue, not halfway through installation.
What should I modify first?
Start with a visual brief, a condition check and a complete budget. Confirm compatibility before ordering, then choose a small reversible change that supports the overall direction. “Reversible” still needs checking against the original material and installation method.
Do cosmetic changes improve performance?
Not by themselves. Appearance is a valid goal, but performance claims need relevant evidence for the exact part, vehicle and conditions. A larger wheel, carbon-look panel or brighter interior light is not automatically a functional upgrade.
Can I trust a universal-fit accessory?
Treat universal fit as a starting claim, not approval. Check dimensions, mounting, wiring and clearance from controls, airbags and sensors. A dashboard accessory should remain secure with the car in use and must not obstruct the driver’s view.
Will larger wheels fit if the bolt pattern matches?
Not necessarily. Width, offset, centre bore, hardware, load rating, tyre specification and clearance throughout movement also matter. Review the complete specification in our wheel guide and obtain vehicle-specific confirmation.
Is a wrap always safer for the original paint?
No. Weak, repaired or deteriorated paint may be damaged during installation or removal. Have the substrate assessed and agree on removal risks. Colour-change film also differs from paint protection film; read the actual product specification.
Can I install ambient lighting myself?
A removable accessory may be straightforward, but permanent wiring needs competent assessment. Protect circuits, secure cables and avoid safety-system wiring and distracting glare. If you cannot identify the circuit and its requirements confidently, use a qualified automotive electrician.
Should I tell my insurer?
Ask your insurer before modifying and describe the planned changes accurately. Notification requirements and cover depend on the policy and location. Keep the written response; do not rely on another owner’s experience as permission for your own vehicle.
Does a ceramic coating replace washing?
No. It may make some cleaning easier, but contamination still accumulates. It is not a guarantee against scratches or stone impacts. Follow the installer’s care instructions and match cleaning products to all the materials on the car.
What should an installer put in writing?
Ask for the exact parts and scope, preparation, compatibility checks, labour, exclusions, aftercare, fault handling and any applicable approval work. Clarify who pays if a trial fit fails and which original parts you will receive back.
